Profound Portals of Consciousness
(Now open everywhere!)
By Rhea Wolf
Forecast for May-June 2013

I am a woman of many desires. Some of my desires are to learn how to play the harmonium, to visit Paris, to heal all religious intolerance and to dance way more often.

Another sincere desire of mine is to empower and support people who are alive in this time of change and upheaval – how to weave these big, often overwhelming things about life into the fabric of daily existence. I am not interested in making every day count, because numbers have their limits. I am interested in how to make every day sacred. For you, myself, my next door neighbors, anyone who will listen and take the time to explore these ideas: That each one of us is sacred and valuable. That each person has something lovely and important to give to the world in spite of and because of their brokenness and short-comings.

It is from this place that I wrote this month’s forecast, plunging us once again into the terrain of Uranus and Pluto – and it gets a bit graphic (in terms of having graphs). On May 20th, Uranus and Pluto will come into exact contact for the third time, at eleven degrees Aries and Capricorn respectively. This comes right in the middle of our current eclipse cycle as well, which heightens emotions and often brings startling revelations.

As a reminder, we’ve been under the influence of the Uranus-Pluto square since 2011. Uranus and Pluto contacts bring widespread cultural change, personal awakening, and shattering of old forms. If we refuse change during this period, what we resist will get stronger. The ego would rather do anything but deal with fear, obsessions, unhealthy power use and intense emotions. The good news is that individuals are better equipped to change. The bad news is that organizations and institutions are slower-moving and will hold on more tightly to the last vestiges of power as a result. This means that the people may be changing but our systems are only falling apart.

The Themes of Uranus and Pluto Square

Pluto and Uranus open Portals of Consciousness. The planetary trends of this time speak of “the cracking of the cosmic egg” and “giving birth to ourselves.”

Retrieving something forgotten but essential, visiting the underworld, old structures and forms dying, transforming authority, individual sacrifice for collective needs, uprising and revolt, taking root and sending out branches, tension between liberty and conservatism.
  • Exact contacts occur in 2013 on May 20 and November 1. While last year felt extreme and volatile for many of us, the transit between Uranus and Pluto continues to try and help us through a disintegration of the old models of power. Uranus’ influence can indeed be liberating, but in Greek Myth, the god was also responsible for throwing his creations into an abyss out of a desire to have the creative impulse remain unconscious. With Uranus in Aries, we can find the strength to make our creative powers conscious and unique. Find the impulse and follow it without bending to prescribed paths. You are special (just like everybody else) and have specific gifts to bring to the table. See those gifts and be ready to share them. Pluto in Capricorn can intensify both our resistance to and obsession with change. To meet this challenge, we need to be in our own authority rather than looking outside to find out which rules to follow. The rules themselves are changing. Really, nothing is certain anymore. But when we stand in our own power, which includes recognizing the limits of that power, we can more easily adapt to the rapid changes being instigated in our lives.
  • Out in the larger world, this transit is being linked with financial collapse as well as government restriction and/or overthrow. Pluto in Capricorn orders up a transformation of the very foundations of our society. Pluto wants us to come face to face with our essential nature so that we use our power for positive change. Deep healing and restructuring needs to occur in everything from banking, to governments, to how we look at the environment, corporations, and fatherhood. All larger, organizational systems and structures are Capricorn-ruled topics. Pluto can be terrifying in its requirement that we relinquish all non-essentials in order to truly see the nature of our power.
  • Uranus is the planet of sudden changes and unexpected awakening. It can liberate us from outdated belief systems or structures in our lives. In Aries, the spirit of individualism will create sweeping changes in our personal lives and ignite innovation, but we will be challenged to consider the long term and the collective as well.

The last time we experienced this transit was in the 1960s, and the themes of those tumultuous, transformative times are up for reconsideration, to be brought to their next level of unfolding. Usually, we only get 3 or 5 exact hits of any transit. But for the current cycle of the Uranus-Pluto square, which is at its peak from 2011-2015, we will experience seven exact hits. What?! That’s quite a ride. But now it gets juicy.

From the Radical Virgo blog written by Joyce Mason, I read about Serbian astrologer Aleksandar Imsiragic. He is using the seven classic chakras as touchstones for the seven exact hits of the Uranus-Pluto square. Why, it’s pure genius! He suggested that each exact contact of the square will activate the chakras, beginning with the First one, the Root Chakra, and going up to the Crown. I think this could be very helpful, so let’s take a look. It’s okay that we didn’t know this for the first two hits. You can catch up.*

As we approach the third contact, which corresponds to the third chakra, we focus on self-esteem and our authority to take action in our lives. The third chakra is the place of personal will, but it is also the place where goddess or god can radiate out of us. I’ve heard it referred to as the storage battery for strength as well as inspiration. It is often associated with our “gut instincts,” that feeling we get when we can just feel or sense the next right move. In order to even hear what our guts are telling us, we have to be pretty clear about who we are while pretty open to divine coincidence.

At this stage in our evolution (and in the Uranus-Pluto transit) we have to be willing to accept help from unlikely places, because we need all the help we can get. We also have to be open enough to understand the signals, to read the signs and have enough authority to take action when action is necessary.  And lastly, we have to be clear enough that we can trust what we feel.  Here is a meditation that Joyce Mason writes for this chakra:

“Third Chakra Meditation: I trust my feelings. They are my power. My body responds to all questions and provides answers. The universe is in my body. I open to interpreting and following my instincts.”

For the next few weeks and months, focus on your Solar Plexus chakra, which is your internal Sun. It is your own solar power: endlessly renewing, giving generously and sustaining life wisely.  Breathe into it. Imagine it glowing and healthy. Feel what it is that you need and learn to trust your instincts. Like learning anything, it takes practice and patience.

Now, if you haven’t had a reading with me, you may not know where this Uranus-Pluto shenanigans is happening in your own life. Let’s take care of that right now.

"In our time we have to the stage where the real work of humanity begins. It is the time where we partner with Creation in the creation of ourselves…Herein, we live daily life reconnected and recharged by the Source, so as to become liberated and engaged in the world and in our tasks."

The Themes of the Twelve Houses

Take these themes under consideration. How are they living out in your current life circumstances? For Pluto, you may ask, “What is currently being empowered in my life? Where am I being asked to release, to die, to be reborn or transformed?” For Uranus, you may wonder,  “What would I dare to do, even if it meant defying the gods?”  As Audre Lorde says, “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less important whether I am afraid.”

Explore these questions and writing prompts as you look for the ways that you are changing and see for yourself how powerful, beautiful and sacred you are.

  • Think of an area of life that feels overwhelming. Now quickly, let an image come to mind that captures that feeling. Write about that image.
  • Begin writing by filling in the blanks, “I may look like I’m _______, but really I am _______. Write for 5 minutes…
  • List 5 things that you fear and 5 things that you crave.
  • Write about a crisis and how you survived.
  • Begin writing with “I release my need to prove…”
